Mexico Networking Breakfast

On 8 October, Holland House Mexico in collaboration with NLinBusiness, The Embassy of The Netherlands in Mexico and IRO hosted a Mexico Networking Breakfast in Amsterdam, during Offshore Energy 2019.

Main objectives of the session were to highlight Mexico´s growing opportunities in the energy and maritime sector and to provide a networking opportunity for companies already active in the Mexican market, and those considering to do so. The Mexican government was present through Mexican Ambassador José Antonio Zabalgoitia and Head of Political Affairs Mauricio Torres

The session that was opened by Edo Offerhaus, managing director of NLinBusiness, followed by a brief introduction of Holland House Mexico by our manager Carin Verbree. Then it was time to hear from a number of HHM´s members active in the energy and maritime sector in Mexico.

Firstly, Guido van der Zwet (IPS Powerful People) provided context of the current situation in Mexico, emphasizing the government’s commitment to the oil and gas sector through planned investments and tenders open to local and foreign companies, including mention of a number of projects that have already been channeled to Mexican oil company PEMEX. The latter providing ample opportunities for subcontracting. Heading a global recruitment company specialized in the energy sector, Van der Zwet made mention of the healthy growth his company is currently enjoying in Mexico.

Next, Boudewijn Janssen from Boskalis, Kathy Kuu from Shell and David Inman from Ampelmann each shared their stories of success in conducting business in Mexico with the audience. Notably Kuu made mention of the impressive speed with which they forcast to realize a current exploration and drilling project in the Gulf of Mexico, reducing the project time line by 60 percent in comparison to similar project in other parts of the world. The contributions gave the entrepreneurs a good insight into the experiences of Dutch companies that do business in the Mexican market.

The final word was for Mexican Ambassador Zabalgaitia, whom not only expressed his commitment to the further development of business between Mexico and The Netherlands, but also received the title of Honorary Member of Holland House Mexico.

Following the breakfast session, HHM participated in the Holland Pavilion at Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference 2019 (OEEC), organized by NLinBusiness and Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT).
